How Invisalign Works
How Does Invisalign Work?
For many people, crooked and crowded teeth hinder the health and appearance of the smile. To improve alignment, you may require orthodontic care. Unfortunately, many people avoid orthodontic treatment because they believe metal braces are the only option for smile correction. Your Los Angeles orthodontist, Dr. David Alpan, offers patients a comfortable and esthetically pleasing alternative to traditional orthodontics.
The Invisalign Process
Clear smile correction begins with a consultation. After an examination, Dr. Alpan will decide if Invisalign is the best choice for correcting your smile. Dr. Alpan will then take an impression of your smile, along with photographs and x-rays. Using these materials, we will create a 3D image. This image will allow Dr. Alpan to craft a treatment plan and for the Invisalign lab to create your aligners.
After receiving your aligners, which will be made using clear, BPA-free plastic, Dr. Alpan will tell you how often to wear them. On average, patients will wear the aligners between 20 and 22 hours each day, every day. About every two weeks, you will upgrade to a new set. Approximately every six weeks, you will see Dr. Alpan, who will track your progress. For adults, the entire process may take a year. Teen patients may need to wear the aligners for up to 18 months.
The Advantages of Invisalign Over Metal Braces
People prefer Invisalign over traditional metal orthodontics for a number of reasons. First, the aligners are inconspicuous, unlike the metal brackets and arch wires of traditional orthodontics. Invisalign aligners can be removed before meals, so you can eat without fear of food particles becoming stuck in your orthodontics. Removable braces also make caring for your teeth easier. Finally, patients wearing Invisalign report a reduction in the discomfort often associated with metal braces.
